DISC BRAKE
Inspection and replacement of brake pads, discs and wear components for safe, consistent braking.
Disc brakes are the most common braking system on modern vehicles. At Barr Automotive in Hornsby, we inspect and repair disc brakes using quality parts, fitted correctly to ensure reliable stopping performance as the manufacturer intended. Common signs of wear include squealing noises, vibrations while braking, or a warning light caused by low fluid or worn sensors.
DRUM BRAKE
Complete drum brake inspection, shoe replacement, adjustment, and cleaning for reliable brake performance.
Drum brakes are still used on the rear of many cars and 4WDs. They use shoes pressing inside a drum to slow the vehicle. We service and repair drum brakes on cars and 4WDs in our Hornsby workshop and we also remove drums on every service to properly inspect all components from shoes, springs and wheel cylinders, and clean the build-up of brake dust. To ensure they operate to specification.
HANDBRAKE
Handbrake diagnostics, cable repairs, and precise adjustments to ensure proper parking brake operation.
Your handbrake (or parking brake) keeps the vehicle secure when parked. Systems can be cable-operated, electronic, or integrated into disc or drum brakes. We inspect handbrake components during servicing and repair worn cables, faulty mechanisms, or electronic faults to ensure correct operation and reliable holding performance.
BRAKE HYDRAULICS
Hydraulic line inspections, leak diagnosis, master cylinder service, and system pressure testing.
Your brake hydraulic system converts pedal pressure into stopping force through the master cylinder, brake lines, and wheel components. We inspect hydraulic components during servicing to identify leaks, wear, or pressure issues early, helping maintain consistent braking performance and prevent larger system failures.
BRAKE FLUID
Brake fluid condition testing and DOT-spec replacement to maintain optimal braking performance.
Brake fluid transfers pedal pressure into stopping force and naturally absorbs moisture over time, reducing performance and increasing the risk of brake fade or corrosion. We test brake fluid condition on every service and recommend replacement every two years, or sooner if moisture levels are high. At Barr Automotive, we use only manufacturer-specified DOT fluid to ensure your braking system performs exactly as intended.
