REGISTRATION CHECKS

A rego check, also known as an eSafety Check or Pink Slip, is a yearly 30-minute safety inspection. Most vehicles over five years old require one by Transport NSW to ensure the car is roadworthy before it can be reregistered. As an Authorised Inspection Station (AIS), Barr Auto is licenced to conduct and lodge safety inspections with Service NSW. You can book a rego check and wait while until it’s completed, or leave it for the day, whatever works best for you. Bookings are essential as we cannot guarantee walk-ins.

During your rego check, our licensed technicians carry out a full eSafety inspection under the Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and Authorised Inspection Station (AIS) guidelines. It’s a quick but thorough look at the key safety systems that keep you, your passengers, and everyone else on the road protected.

Here’s what we check:

• Brakes and tyres

• Lights and indicators

• Steering and suspension

• Seatbelts and safety features vehicle body and structure

• Engine and driveline

If everything passes, we’ll submit your result instantly to Service NSW so you can renew your registration right away. If your vehicle doesn’t pass the check due to not meeting the minimum safety requirements, we’ll provide a clear report explaining what needs to be fixed and a quote for repairs. If repairs are completed within 14 days, we’ll reinspect your vehicle free of charge as per TfNSW guidelines.

If your registration has expired, don’t panic! But don’t drive without checking the rules first. You may be allowed to drive directly to a booked inspection as long as you can show proof of the booking, but this varies depending on your situation. If your registration has expired, call Service NSW or your local police station for guidance before driving to the workshop. If your vehicle has been unregistered for more than 90 days, it will need a Blue Slip inspection, which we don’t currently provide but are working towards in the future.
